Up a creek without a paddle

So we were in Winston-Salem on Friday night for a wedding rehearsal for Adam and Beth. We were stuck in traffic for almost an hour, setting us back on getting to the rehearsal on time. The low gas light came on about 20 miles outside of Winston-Salem. We thought we could make it to the church before stopping....and we did. Our hotel was about 5 miles from the church. Gas was our first priority after the rehearsal. We didn't make it. We made it up a hill, waited for the light to turn green, and the car stalled. And stalled. And stalled. We pulled it to the left side of the road and just as we put on the hazards, a police officer drove down the other side of the divided road, saw our trouble, turned around, and called another police officer to help. We were only about 2/3 of a mile from a gas station. All 4 of us pushed the car up the rest of the hill, thru an intersection, let the car roll down the hill, and then we had to push it the last 1/4 of a mile up an incline to the gas station. Talk about hard work. The Ford Escape is not a light vehicle.

The best part about the whole incident was that these two police officers helped without batting an eye. They were happy to help push the car....even suggested it! Thankfully they were in good shape so they could help push. It renewed our faith in the police force. They were so nice and helpful. The could have easily given us a ride to the gas station to buy a gas can, but opted to do the grunt work instead. We offered to buy them dinner or a Coke, but just smiled and said they were happy to help.

Now we know we have a 16 gallon tank.

Adam and Beth's wedding was so nice and we are so happy for the both of them.

p.s. this is daniel writing for my lovely wife.
